UJCES Home Care forces its Latina home care workers to work brutal 24-hour shifts, often back-to-back. These 24-hour workdays destroy workers’ mental health, physical health, marriages, and families. 

For this backbreaking work, UJCES illegally pays only 13 hours of every 24-hour shift, and owes its workers millions of dollars in stolen wages. For protection, UJCES colludes with both the SEIU 1199 workers’ union and the New York State Department of Labor to block workers from legal recourse.

UJCES claims to represent the interests of the Lower East Side, particularly the Jewish community. But by abusing and exploiting immigrant workers, UJCES creates a divide between the Jewish community and the rest of the Lower East Side.
