Reina Caba Speaks Out: Why I am Joining the Citywide Fight for People-First Demands

NMASS member Reina Caba spoke out on May Day at City Hall about why she is fighting for people-first demands:

“I worked 24-hour shifts for six years. 24-hour shifts destroyed my health. They are a form of torture. This is why we are fighting to end 24-hour shifts. I am retired, but I don’t want the new generation to suffer the same abuse.

“For two years, Speaker Adams still blocks the No More 24 Act, upholding this slavery of women of color!

“She is also attacking the healthcare of the city retirees and passing the displacement plan—”City of Yes.” I was forced to leave the Lower East Side because of high rent – and now Speaker Adams wants to displace me again!

“How dare she now run for mayor! Shame on Speaker Adams!

“We are uniting with people across the city to fight for our people-first demands. We call on the rest of City Council and all those running for office now: Don’t make the mistake of following Speaker Adams! Join us to demand No More 24-hour workdays, good healthcare for all, and no more displacement!”
