Trump’s latest policies, such as deportations of green card holders and revocation of birthright citizenship, threaten both immigrants and citizens! This did not start with Trump. Since 1986, we have lived under the modern-day version of Jim Crow: the so-called Employer Sanctions law introduced in the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). This law has made immigrants criminals for working, forcing citizens to compete with an illegal underclass with no rights, thereby dragging down all of our working conditions. 

Now, Trump’s making all of us — including citizens and those with legal status — criminals! He is expanding the underclass — all to enrich the greedy oligarchs seeking to profit from degrading our conditions!

We the undersigned applaud you, California Governor Gavin Newsom, for taking a brave stance against Trump’s deployment of National Guards and the violent ICE raids terrorizing immigrant communities. We ask you to: 

1) Continue to stop the Trump administration’s ICE raids, arrests, and deportations without due process, and stop fearmongering. 

2) Demand Trump stop the criminalization of working people by ending the Employer Sanction provision of IRCA (1986)

3) And ensure equal rights for all workers
